It may not have the swordfight at the end but it certainly merits praise for being able to portray the essence of Hamlet’s story – a son’s quest for justice for his father’s death. Conclusion The universal appeal of Hamlet is based largely on the fact that we can all empathize with his struggles and ideals. Hamlet was written around the year 1600 in the final years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who had been the monarch of England for more than forty years and was then in her late sixties. The prospect of Elizabeth’s death and the question of who would succeed her was a subject of grave anxiety at the time, since Elizabeth had no children William Shakespeare's famous work "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" is a tragedy set across five acts written around the year 1600.More than just a revenge play, "Hamlet" deals with questions about life and existence, sanity, love, death, and betrayal.

Claudius plots with him to make Hamlet’s death appear accidental and encourages him to anoint his sword with poison. He also puts a cup of poison aside, in case the sword is unsuccessful. Shakespeare seems to be making an explicit connection between Hamlet's eternal afterlife, the angelic voices that "sing," and the storytelling that Horatio undertakes at this moment. Because Hamlet's story will be told, he'll live on for eternity. And judging by Hamlet's popularity, Shakespeare seems to be right.
